Academy, Tony and Emmy Award winning Geoffrey Rush returns to his true home on stage with an all-star comedy cast in the brazenly retro Broadway musical, A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum. Playing in Melbourne only for a strictly limited 12 week season at Her Majesty’s Theatre. This colossal comedy lineup includes Geoffrey Rush, Shane Bourne, Hugh Sheridan, Magda Szubanski, Gerry Connolly, Christie Whelan, Mitchell Butel, Adam Murphy and Bob Hornery.
With a name as long as it’s list of stars, A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum is a smart new cheeky production of the beloved Tony Award winning musical.
Under the direction of Simon Phillips, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, this shamelessly retro musical pays homage to vintage vaudeville in a celebration of theatrical comedy.
Geoffrey Rush bounds onto stage as the scheming slave Pseudolus, attempting to win his freedom from the henpecked Senex (Shane Bourne) and his overbearing wife Domina (Magda Szubanski). When he learns his master's dim-witted son Hero (Hugh Sheridan) has fallen in love with a virgin courtesan (Christie Whelan) he seizes the opportunity to secure his release.
Steal, beg or bribe to get yourself a ticket – because anything can happen at the Forum....and it probably will!
