Visual Artist Amanda Krantz' New Exhibition Art Launch Rickshaw Madam: (A Journey into the Wonderlands of India and Thailand)
Amanda Krantz finished a degree in Visual Arts in the year 2000. Like most, Amanda was sure it was impossible to make a living as an artist. As fortune would have it, she found herself unemployed in 2004 and was struggling to make ends meet. She began selling small paintings on eBay, and with the money she made Amanda was able to reinvest into more art materials. Very slowly, and with sheer determination, she built her name and developed her abilities and has since been able to support herself and continue painting.
Since starting her career, she has sold over 1500 originals online and in galleries, and 300 commissions for private collections. She is a prize winning artist and has been collected worldwide. Most recently, she was selected to have her work displayed on a billboard in Times Square in New York.
Amanda’s work, although playful and random, is alchemical in approach (a quote from a recent article “Amanda Krantz is to art as what Heston Blumenthal is to food”). Her compulsive need to play and experiment in the studio has led to the development of some very unusual and unique techniques. The results tend to leave other artists baffled as to how her work is created. She has been invited to teach her methods at workshops across Australia.
She has always seen her practice as a journey of visual discovery, probing and manipulating the materials, pushing them into the unknown, whilst recreating her travel experiences by recording what is there but you can’t see.
Earlier this year, Amanda was invited to embark on an Artist in Residency program in Doi Saket, Thailand. Prior to the program, she voyaged through India, Thailand and Laos.
Her upcoming exhibition is “Rickshaw, Madam?” (A Journey into the Wonderlands of India and Thailand) will be opening at the Graydon Gallery New Farm and special guest councillor Vicky Howard will open this up on the 16th November and then will be open to the public till the 25th November from 10.00-6.00pm.
