Widely recognised as one of the world's most outstanding figurative painters, Francis Bacon's works are gutsy, controversial and unforgettable - he created some of the most vibrant and innovative paintings of the 20th century.
The first major exhibition of his work to be seen in Australia now comes to the Art Gallery of NSW, part of the Sydney International Art Series.
With over 50 rare paintings, including some of Bacon's most well-known triptychs, as well as archival material from his studio, films and photographs, the exhibition covers every decade of his career.
Coinciding with the exhibition, Sydney Festival presents Music in the Void, a series of curated performances by musicians responding to Bacon's triptychs. Artists include Arkady Shilkloper and members of Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop, Orchestre National de Jazz and yMusic.
"I've made images the intellect would never make." - Francis Bacon
Presented by Art Gallery of New South Wales in association with Sydney Festival.
