ThinkSeries: Ideas and experiments in policy design from around the world.
In some parts of the world, many local and federal governments invite their citizens to design public policy in collaboration with policy makers. This approach has led to better informed policies, more equitable policies, strengthened ownership and inclusion, enhanced government capacity and promotion of a common understanding around complex, misunderstood or even contentious issues.
While governments have a large part to play in opening political space, creating the right conditions and setting up the necessary structures and processes to meet increasing expectations around accountability, transparency and active citizenship - policy-makers also have an important role to play in raising awareness about the issues at stake, helping citizens and communities organise themselves for more participatory and collaborative policy-making.
To begin the conversation, Nina Terrey, Partner at ThinkPlace will discuss some of the key issues on this topic following her presentations at international conferences at Boston (US) and Lille (France) in recent weeks. At ThinkPlace, Nina is responsible for leading and managing design projects with a strong focus on driving human-centred strategies to solve complex problems. Nina works across government at both senior and project levels, with an ethos based on strategic dialogue and taking a strong co-design approach.
