Following on from their breathtaking audio-visual album preview at Sydney Opera House for Graphic 2012 (shortlisted by Sydney Morning Herald as one of the best live shows of the year), Fat Freddy’s Drop return to Australia with the full Blackbird album in tow. And it is certainly worth the wait.
Released Friday June 21st via Remote Control, Blackbird is an exceptional release in its own right. As a document of the band’s progression, it is something of a watershed record that perfectly encapsulates all influences of The Drop; with moments of Ethio-Jazz, Detroit Techno, Blues, Soul and much much more in the mix. Flanked by the early teaser Silver and Gold (which immediately went hi-ro on triple j) and the official single Clean The House, fans are only now getting a taste of what’s in store on Blackbird; some familiar vibes spiced with a whole new kettle of fish.
The perennial soul providers will perform four Australian shows in August-September as part of a worldwide celebration for the release of Blackbird.
With international demand for the band at an all time high around their third studio album release, Freddys are set to embark on a second run of shows in Europe for 2013. The October European tour features 21 headline shows across UK, France, Germany, Denmark, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, Italy and Portugal.
Fat Freddy’s fans can purchase album bundles along with their exclusive presale tickets from www.fatfreddysdrop.com from 28th May including a super deluxe vinyl boxset. Those lucky enough to secure tickets to Splendour In The Grass will be amongst the first in the world to hear Blackbird live - setting the scene for this immensely anticipated tour.
