Schedule of Events (also available for purchase, numbers limited):
How to become a wine snob in 40 minutes:
Run by Gerald Ellis founder of Meadowbank Estate and Meadowbank Vineyard. This event will be a fun and informal introduction to wine and wine tasting for the novice providing attendees with quirky insight into the mysteries of wine drinking and an opportunity to try some of Tasmania's best varietals. (Saturday)
Tasmanian Pinot Noir - Terroir in Focus:
Building on the success of the sold out masterclass conducted at Savour Tasmania 2012, attendees have the chance revisit the outstanding 2010 vintage with wines also previewed from the recent 2012 vintage. Award-winning Australian wine critic Nick Stock leads fellow pinot noir enthusiasts on a journey that delves deep into discovering the taste of great Tasmanian terroir. (Saturday)
The Plumm Wine Glass Experience: The Plumm Wine Glass Experience is an exclusive customer event that is both educational and enjoyable. You are invited to join us for a 60 minute relaxed, yet structured event that details the unique and exhaustive testing process undertaken by Plumm, why we arrived at the decision to create just 5 kinds of glasses, and how each of them interacts with the various styles of wine. Cost includes Plumm glasses used in the tasting as a gift for participating (valued at $120 - Saturday and Sunday).
Gold Medal and Trophy Pinot Noir Tasting:
What makes a Pinot Noir exciting? Try a selection of Tasmania's current top Pinots and chat with the producers about what they think makes this variety special. Hosted by Winsor Dobbin. (Sunday)
Sparkling Secrets with Curly Haslam-Coates:
Tasmania's cool climate has been recognized for a while now as being the best in the country for producing grapes for premium sparkling wines. Join wine educator Curly Haslam-Coates to explore and enjoy some of her favourite sparklings from Tasmania's smaller producers. (Sunday)
The 'non Pinot' reds - our hidden gems?:
A focus tasting on Tasmania's Cabernet and Shiraz and associated varieties bench marked with some classic European counterparts. How do we stack up? Should we be developing, or pulling out, these vines? 12 wines, 8 Tasmanian and 4 European from excellent vintages presented by Tim Goddard (wine judge, educator/ owner Cool Wine). (Sunday)
Food and Wine Matching: Gourmet pairing of food and Pinot Noir presented by Hobart's best travelled food and wine writers Sue Dyson and Roger McShane. It won’t all be red and it won’t all be Tasmanian but it’s guaranteed to be interesting and hopefully provocative. We’ll match each wine with a taste of some delicious Tasmanian food that we think will enhance both the wine and the food, and serve them in a way that represents, through these small tastes, the progression of a meal. There will be plenty of opportunity for discussion and observation. (Sunday)
