Frontier Touring can confirm that one of Australia’s most treasured and prolific singer-songwriters - Ben Lee, will perform a collection of classics and new material for three intimate shows in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne this June.

This follows the announcement that on May 29, Ben will release his keenly awaited new album Love Is The Great Rebellion (pre-order here, listen to first single Big Love), his first since signing with Warner Bros. Records in February of this year. A return to the sound of his 2005 double-platinum certified album Awake Is The New Sleep and reteamed with the producer of that album and frequent collaborator Brad Wood (Liz Phair, Veruca Salt), Love Is The Great Rebellion is full of the unstoppably catchy, pop-rock hits and startlingly insightful lyrics that Ben has always been so adept at composing.

Ben was always destined for a life of music, discovered at just 14 years of age by Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth and having fronted alt-rock band Noise Addict, who considered The Beastie Boys amongst their fans. He released his first solo-album Grandpaw Would in 1995 that quickly proclaimed Ben as a genre-spanning, musical force to be reckoned with. Since then Ben has gone onto produce nine solo-albums including the acclaimed Awake Is The New Sleep, which saw him win no less than four ARIA Awards including Single of the Year and Best Male Artist in 2005 and in 2010 was listed in the book, 100 Best Australian Albums. The album spawned the single ‘Catch My Disease’ which came in second in the 2005 triple J Hottest 100 and won Ben Song of the Year and Most Performed Australian Work at that years APRA Awards. Other singles have included the timeless ‘Cigarettes Will Kill You’, the devastatingly beautiful ‘Gamble Everything For Love’ and the anthemic ‘Love Me Like The World Is Ending’.

In June of last year Ben performed at The Basement in Sydney, Howler in Melbourne and Federation Concert Hall in Hobart for a special series of shows that encapsulated Ben’s impressive back catalogue and masterful skills as a musician collecting rave reviews along the way.

‘Ben Lee is undeniably an expert lyricist, using plays on words and a sophisticated grasp on language to express his ideas, while also still allowing them to be easily accessible for the listener.’ — Beat Magazine

As well as the release of Love Is The Great Rebellion on the horizon, Ben recently released A Mixtape From Ben Lee (download here). Fourteen years in the making, the Mixtape features vocal contributions from Zooey Deschanel, Ben Folds, Azure Ray, Sean Lennon, Neil Finn, and others, with a “donate what you want” basis, beginning at $1 and all proceeds going to the Q’Ero Project, which supports the basic needs and development of the Q'ero people of Peru.

Ben Lee has become an integral part of the Australian contemporary musical landscape. He is as gifted onstage as he is in the studio, weaving stories with his songs that we can all relate to. These east coast shows are one of those rare opportunities to see an exceptional talent up-close and personal, don’t miss out!

Following on from the exciting announcement that national treasure Ben Lee will perform three intimate shows in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne this June, Frontier Touring can confirm that joining Ben as special guests will be fellow Australian singer-songwriters Gordi and Carry Nation.

After a stint writing and working in Tanzania, Gordirelocated to Sydney to pursue her musical career (as well as some sideline studies in medicine). In late 2014, she picked up a lot of attention with her track ‘Nothing's As It Seems’, a luminous pop track that drew comparisons ranging from Angel Olson, Ásgeir, Joni Mitchell and Tallest Man On Earth. The 21 year old artist was quickly added to high rotation on triple j and community radio around Australia and named triple j’s Unearthed Feature Artist earlier this year. ‘Nothing’s As It Seems’ also peaked at #5 on the Spotify Viral Chart, #6 on the iTunes singer-songwriter chart, top 40 in the Shazam Chart (with over 20,000 plays to date), #17 on the Hype Machine Charts and was the 8th most added track to radio around Australia two weeks after release.

With an ethereal, worldly vocal punctuated by wonderful arrangement, her second single ‘Taken Blame’ serves as another offering of what should be a busy 2015 for Gordi. She transformed the shells of demos recorded in her university dorm room in Sydney’s Newtown into dynamic and full-bodied indie-folk songs with the help of Melbourne producer Benjamin McCarthy. The first two singles are tastes of Gordi’s forthcoming EP – tracks that will have you going back for more.

Carry Nation is Brisbane’s Jessie Warren, who has been casting audiences under her spell for over six years. The Brisbane born, singer-songwriter released her acclaimed debut album Like a River Does and stunning single ‘Whales In Webs’ through El Niño El Niño in early 2010 and has been lauded for her commanding tunes and transfixing live performances.

After performing alongside the likes of Darren Hanlon, Claire Bowditch, Lisa Mitchell and Whitley, Warren quietly put her project on hold to focus on electronic representations of her delicately organic song-craft in Half Shark and more recently as the vocalist of abstract supergroup half/cut. At the request of none other than Ben Lee himself, Carry Nation will re-emerge and join Ben’s east coast tour making these shows a truly special event.
