Brett Iggulden and the Finer Cuts

With an abiding love for hot music and obscure, often forgotten melodies, Brett Iggulden is steeped in Australian Jazz history. In Melbourne in 1960, at age 16, he co-founded the legendary Red Onion Jazz Band. The Onions became an enduring household name during the early ‘60’s and toured extensively throughout Europe between 1966 and 1971. Brett made 24 records and CD’s with the Red Onions and also toured and made records with Jazz legends Ade Monsbourgh, Len and Bob Barnard, Tom Baker, Smacka Fitzgibbon amongst others. Brett’s enduring contribution to music in Australia has been recognised by being rewarded the Order of Australia [OAM] in 2002.

Brett is a long-time friend of one of our country’s leading Jazz trumpeters and one of the most authentic torch bearers of the New Orleans Jazz tradition, Geoff Bull. This show is sure to be memorable and swinging in great New Orleans tradition. Brett is joined by ‘The Finer Cuts’ five of the country’s most in demand young Jazz musicians: Justin Fermino, Ben Panucci and Sam Dobson (three quarters of The Cope Street Parade), piano prodigy Harry Sutherland and trombone extraordinaire John Hibbard. This band is unprecedented in Australia for its dedication to the tradition of New Orleans Jazz and is a true living and breathing symbol of the passing on of knowledge from an old master to the next generation.
