7 Hearts.

2 Heart & Lung.

29 West Australians with us today because of life-saving organ donation this year.

Meet Heart & Lung Research Institute (HLRI) Chair & specialist cardiac anaesthetist Dr Warren Pavey, heart transplant recipient Brett Driessen, HLRI researcher and anaesthetist Dr. Lisa Alarcon and Mr Robert Larbalestier AO, who pioneered the Western Australian Heart and Lung Transplant Service and performed the very first heart and lung transplants in WA.

At this special DonateLife Week event, you'll hear about how far research into heart and lung transplant has come since the first transplants performed in WA in 1995, and what HLRI are doing to make sure the most precious gifts we can give are getting to those who need them most.

Speakers:

Dr Warren Pavey: How molecules will save more lives, sooner: technology that will change the way we treat chronic heart disease.

Mr Brett Driessen: Receiving the most precious gift of all; a story of loss and life

Dr Lisa Alarcon: What does the community really think about donation and transplant?

Mr Robert Larbalestier AO: How research has changed heart & lung transplants and what the future might hold if enough funding was available.

Wheelchair accessible seats and portable hearing loops are available for this event. Once you have downloaded your ticket by registering for the event, please email dani.ryder@health.wa.gov.au to confirm your booking.
