Bunjil Place Summer Sounds

Get ready to bop with some of Melbourne’s hottest local talent at Bunjil Place’s resident outdoor music festival, Summer Sounds. Wander through the Plaza space and soak up a day of live music, Andy-Warhol style stage design, and delicious food and beverages.

Tickets will include a redeemable item at the candy bar upon arrival. Four live acts will be headlining a tremendous evening of live entertainment, including:

Emma Volard
6.00pm
Melbourne-based Emma Volard is a future-soul artist inspired by the likes of Erykah Badu, FKA Twigs, and Yazmin Lacey. On the Plaza stage, Volard will share her multi-dimensional sounds that mirror elements of R&B, neo-soul and EDM to create a luscious atmosphere to kick off the festival.

Bailey Judd
7.00pm
Producer and songwriter Bailey Judd will share his genre-bending sound derived from a hotpot of blues, pop and jazz influences. In April 2020, Judd released Dance With You Now and has since been played on Triple J, 3MDR, Obscure Sounds and recently performed on The Isolation Sessions. Melbourne born and raised, Judd has received mentorship from pop writers and through his jazz studies at VC A, the result is a curated a textured mix of musical influences.

The Mamas

Eight-piece soul, R&B and funky fem-hop group The Mamas will follow with a sequin-studded show. Led by four sassy vocalists, The Mamas are well-loved by Melburnians and are a feast for the senses and an invigorating tonic for those in need of a good dance. The Mamas are best known for delivering social messages with a cheeky, comedic twist - something which has succeeded in gaining them adoring fans from all ages and backgrounds.

The Steel Syndicate

The Steele Syndicate will wrap up the night by providing a combination of old school funk, reggae, ska and indie rock. This Brisbane-based octet led by Steele McMahon packs a roaring, four-piece horn section and a rhythm section to match, creating music from soulful, contemplative ballads to dance-inducing funk frenzies. The band will unleash their groovier-than-ever tunes influenced by the likes of The Cat Empire, Fat Freddy's Drop, and Earth, Wind & Fire.

Bunjil Place is an award-winning cultural precinct in the City of Casey that first opened in 2017. The name and striking architectural design of the facility were inspired by stories of Bunjil (also known as ‘Bundjil’) the ‘creator’, from our First Nation’s People. Bringing together an outdoor community plaza, theatre, multipurpose studio, function centre, library, gallery and more – Bunjil Place is a destination for high-quality arts and entertainment in Melbourne’s south-east.
