A Laugh And A Half

Underground Comedy Club returns this March (after a sold-out launch show in February).

The Imperial is a famous Sydney venue, renowned for outrageously fun live entertainment, including their legendary drag shows.

Underground Comedy Club is a monthly stand-up comedy night at The Imperial and continues to deliver big laughs in March with these hilarious performers:

(1) Underground Comedy Club - Jake Howie

Kiwi comedian Jake Howie has performed throughout the UK, Australia and New Zealand. Jake performed his solo show ‘Read My Lips’ in the Brighton Fringe, Edinburgh Fringe, Leicester Comedy Festival, and Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

(2) Support Act: Cassie Workman

Cassie Workman is known for her heartfelt and emotive storytelling, her incisive wit, and brutal deconstructions of the status quo. Her multiple-award-winning comedy delights and surprises as much as it challenges and confronts. You may have already enjoyed Cassie’s comedy, with her comedy writing credits including Channel 10s “It’s a Date” and “Die on Your Feet”, ABC’s “Shaun Micallef’s Mad As Hell”, “John Conway Tonight” (ABC2), “Tractor Monkeys”, and Tiger airway’s inflight magazine ‘Tigertails.’

Seeing Cassie live will entertain you on multiple levels as she teases your intelligence and humanity, as well as your sense of humour!

(3) Support Act: Stephanie Broadbridge

Stephanie Broadbridge is a rule-breaker. You know that rule that women aren’t meant to be funny? Broken. The rule that musical comedy isn’t funny? Broken. Rules of engagement? The rules of online dating? The rule of thumb? Broken. Broken. Broken. Just don’t expect that when you come and see Steph performing comedy that she won’t help you break a few rules of your own.

She’s versatile, too. She breaks other stuff: Steph has been breaking entire rooms of comedy fans into laughter for years now. She broke the Sydney record for the number of comedy shows performed in a year. Twice. We’ll let you work out for yourself what she did with comedy’s glass ceiling.

Rumour has it that Prince Charming once rocked up at her door with a glass slipper. Steph used it for a shoey. Then broke it. Mazel tov!

In 2019, Steph performed her first solo comedy show ‘Female Musical Comedian’ at Sydney Fringe Festival. The show was nominated, and shortlisted, for best comedy at the Festival.

And you know that rule that only safe, predictable comedy will entertain you? Come and see Steph live and see what she does with that one!

(4) Support Act: Frida Deguise

Donut mogul, chef, fashion icon and comedian, Frida DeGuise is the quintessential Australian comedian; in a scarf.

A self-proclaimed ‘Wogan’ (part ‘wog’ – part bogan), this 5ft Australian-born, Lebanese Muslim makes up in heart what she lacks in height. She’s gregarious, hilarious and driven by an absolute passion for comedy that makes Frida such a joy to watch.

One of the few Muslim comedians in Australia this unique, mother-of-four is smashing racial stereotypes and cultural divides. She is funny, dynamic and outspoken about all the things that society says we probably shouldn’t talk about. Being a Muslim woman, wearing a Metallica shirt and the things you can hide in a hijab all get a mention. Laugh along as Frida makes comment on her everyday life with hysterical honesty. Kids, husbands, racism, religion, sex – nothing is sacred, or safe.
