The City of Melbourne’s ArtPlay will celebrate Aboriginal cultures and sustainable architecture through multisensory offerings for children this school holidays.
Established artists will work closely with children to co-create meaningful pieces through a number of workshops and art experiences, as part of the New Ideas Lab program.
Earth Children
Participants will be invited to get their hands dirty as they co-design and create an interactive exhibition made of soil and other natural building materials, as part of the Earth Children workshops.
Once built, children can play in the installation.
Sustainability artist Serene Kitchen will lead the program, which aims to broaden the horizons of children living in built-up environments.
“Playing in mud is an experience that’s less accessible in urban areas, so I came up with a fun idea to bring the joys of sustainable earth architecture to kids in the city,” she said.
“I think the children will be delighted and challenged by the sensory stimulus at Earth Children – it’s messy, wet and literally gets in between your toes and fingers.”
