Essendon Fields Open Day Event - 100th Birthday Celebration

Last year Essendon Fields marked its 100-year anniversary, although due to the pandemic they were unable to celebrate this milestone as they would have liked!

So instead, this year, to celebrate 100 years of operation, Essendon Fields is inviting all families, history buffs and aviation enthusiasts to their Open Day Event on Sunday March 27 from 10am-3pm, for the community and people that helped shape Melbourne’s first airport.

This is a free open day and outdoor event – making it a perfect for day for family and friends to visit, have some fun and learn all about the rich history that is Essendon Fields!

Activities on offer throughout the day include:
- A unique collection of aircraft on show including the new Victoria Police Air Wing fleet, fighter jets, specially modified aeromedical aircraft and luxury private jets.
- Helicopter joy flight.
- A collection of classic cars, including a special selection from Lindsay Fox’s Classic Car Museum on show.
- Historical walking tour, showcasing original hangars, air traffic control and early aviation pioneer history.
- Full throttle virtual reality flight experience from Orbx Simulation and the Royal Australian Air Force.
- Food trucks and gourmet samples available from LaManna Supermarket, the EF Central Eat Street.
