MWFF returns for its sixth year from 10 – 14 February 2022, taking place at ACMI, now an official festival partner. The theme Laugh Louder, will explore how women and gender diverse filmmakers inject humour into their work, through screenings, retrospectives, conversations and skills development programs. The festival will focus on comedy, the lighter side of life, and the potential of humour to challenge social and cultural stereotypes.

MWFF will once again bring together a dynamic program of features and short films, web series, music videos, talks and workshops, in person at ACMI and online.

Award-winning comedian Geraldine Hickey will MC the opening night event where a series of short films will also be screened, on Thursday 10 February.

The festival will host panel talks and discussions, co-presented by research partner, Monash University. Including panels: Creating Comedy Online and The Culture of Comedy.

The full program includes regular short film sessions - Freshly Squeezed Shorts, Documentaries and Next Gen shorts, a special comedy shorts program, the education program and the closing night movie.

MWFF aims to expand the vision of gender equality and diversity in the Australian screen industries and culture by creating dynamic and inclusive spaces that bring diverse practitioners and audiences together to be moved by compelling, provocative and entertaining cinema.

Presented by Film Victoria, City of Melbourne and ACMI. Fully Accessible.
