Screenwave International Film Festival’s first-ever live music event, STORYLAND.

NSW’s beloved East Coast Film Festival, Screenwave International Film Festival (SWIFF) presents a brand-new live multi-arts and music Festival, STORYLAND on Saturday 23 April at Coffs Harbour’s Park Beach Reserve.

STORYLAND’s one-day live music line-up will be headlined by ARIA Award-winning and Grammy-nominated songwriter Courtney Barnett, alongside twice Grammy-nominated jazz-funk band Hiatus Kaiyote, Melbourne’s local dreamy pop artist Hachiku, multi-ARIA Award-nominated R&B singer Ngaiire, Gumbaynggiirr and Noongar singer-songwriter Emma Donovan, nostalgic jangle-pop 3-guitar band Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, and New Orleans inspired seven-piece raucous street brass band Horns of Leroy.

Described as a creative playground for grown-ups, the festival will tempt film tropes and aesthetics with good food, tasty beverages and an array of established and upcoming artists across multiple art forms. STORYLAND is a full day and night event on Saturday 23 April at Coffs Harbour’s Park Beach Reserve – on the iconic waterfront of the beachside community.

To introduce the inaugural story of STORYLAND, prolific First Nations Creative Directors Zakpage (Barangaroo Reserve’s Cutaway Wellama) and animation artist and musician Caleb Cowie (K+LAB) kick off the inaugural STORYLAND with an original multi-media narrative artwork.

On top of the brilliant acts, the festival will display immersive installation works for patrons to explore their senses. STORYLAND will feature ONE SECOND OF FILM, a 10.5m tall rotating double helix film sculpture designed by Clint Hurrell (Splendour in the Grass, Woodford), MOVIE TRAILER PARK, a three-piece artwork, each with a diorama of a film, housed in caravans that sit amongst STORYLAND’s makeshift trailer park food trucks, created by artist and production designer Sarah Stollman (who has collaborated with David O. Russell, Kelly Reichardt, and John Waters); also the set designer of STORYLAND; GLADERUNNER, a cyberpark artwork set in a copse of trees, designed by Zakpage, projected art created by Marion Conrow and an audio-visual performance by Alon Ilsar (Sydney Theatre Company’s Mojo).

STORYLAND features a second music stage, an explosive film-themed DJ tent called The Yurt Locker featuring performances from Ethno-cyber funk godfather Coco Varma, veteran Jamaican MC Fitzroy Lee (debuting his new album ‘Nu Roots’ at STORYLAND), reggae, dub and jungle turntablist Papa Boom, drum and bass breakbeats artist DJ Bam, techno revivalist Biz, Coffs Harbour veteran dance DJ Ice G+, and bass evangeliser PSUB, creator of the Skeng Teng Hifi.
