Strut Dance Presents
Groundworks 2022

A double bill of contemporary dance works by up-and-coming Western Australian choreographers Jo Omodei and Kimberley Parkin.

STRUT Dance invites audiences to witness a double bill that celebrates independent contemporary dance from Western Australia. 2022 marks STRUT Dance’s inaugural season of GROUNDWORKS; a platform that offers unique and essential support for mid-length presentation for independent choreographers, allowing them to present performance works in front of an audience, in a theatre setting. GROUNDWORKS 2022 incorporates a blend of contemporary dance, sound, light, and set that celebrates live performance in the theatre; a place where an audience can gather and be transported into another realm.

About each performance
TITLE: Killjoy
Within the confines of an office space, doom descends upon two workers caught in corporate submission. Time is irrelevant here.

Inspired by the Japanese ’salary man’ phenomenon, Killjoy is a cult horror film meets live dance-theatre.

CHOREOGRAPHER: Kimberley Parkin of Parkin Projects
PERFORMERS: Rhiana Katz & Luther Wilson
SET AND COSTUMER DESIGN: Declan Macphail / Object House
COMPOSITION / SOUND DESIGN: Feels
LIGHTING DESIGN: Peter Young

TITLE: As the Edges Soften
As the Edges Soften explores the transient moments shared between two people, and the temporality of moving together, even if apart. This cathartic duet navigates the in between spaces of our interactions, and the heightened need for connection in a pandemic world.

CHOREOGRAPHER AND PERFORMER: Jo Omodei
PERFORMER: Mitch Spadaro
UNDERSTUDY: Nadia Priolo
MENTOR: Bernadette Lewis
LIGHTING DESIGN: Peter Young
SOUND DESIGN: Sophia Hansen-Knarhoi
