Stroll by La Mama Theatre on Mar 26, a Sunday afternoon, between 1:30pm and 3:30pm and catch Gamelan DanAnda rehearsing in the forecourt of La Mama as part of The Music Between's series of events.
Gamelan DanAnda will conduct an open rehearsal of Balinese Gamelan Gong Kebyar repertoire. The rehearsal will demonstrate a range of characteristic Balinese gamelan techniques including interlocking patterns between locked-in musicians, and instruments perfectly tuned to create ‘ombak/waves’ that create its shimmering textures.

About The Music Between
The Boite’s new program of events "The Music Between" explores how musical traditions in Australia evolve and transform as they come into contact with each other. It will focus on how the original practitioners and their listeners change as they cultivate new Australian musical landscapes.
In this project we are showcasing various aspects of 4 rich traditions Indian, Iranian, Indonesian and Italian. Among the artists involved are Sanacori, Misagh Zamani, Vinod Prasanna and Leo Dale, Ria Soemardjo, members of Gameland DanAnda, Mahindra Bali and Firetail ensembles. The performances will take place in a range of venues in Melbourne, including La Mama Theatre, Abbotsford Convent, and CresFest in regional Victoria.
