The History of the Gallipoli Campaign in 13 Objects

Whilst Australians know the Gallipoli story, it is often interesting to access a different perspective. A collaboration between the UK-based Gallipoli Association and the Friends of ANZAC Cottage has led to an exchange of information and ideas, with one outcome being a Zoom talk due to take place on Sunday, October 15, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. Australian Western Standard Time.

This talk, entitled “ The History of the Gallipoli Campaign in 13 Objects”, will be delivered by Ian Birnie, a retired history teacher and amateur historian. He is also a Trustee of The Gallipoli Association. He will give an overview of the campaign, describing the conditions faced by the soldiers of both sides and provide an analysis of why the Allies ultimately failed to knock Turkey out of the war. He will do this by focussing on 13 objects which highlight the key features of this campaign.
