The Boite

Vinod Prasanna, a bansuri player extraordinaire, teams up with saxophonist Leo Dale to coordinate “One Note” - a participatory event where audience members are encouraged to bring an instrument to join in a meditative exploration of vibration of a single note. The essence of the event is for everyone to play one note for up to three hours on the same pitch (in different octaves) as a way to tune in, to a deeper appreciation of music.

Vinod has facilitated experiences like this lasting up to 6 hours, the note keeps on changing over the time until it settles in the space within, without and between. An exercise in intense active listening, One Note is a deep experience utilising the phenomenon of sympathetic vibration. The participants in One Note event all tune into each other and tune each other up. As the note settles, the harmony within one note is found.

About The Boite's 'The Music Between'
One Note is part of The Boite's 'The Music Between' program. It explores how musical traditions in Australia evolve and transform as they come into contact with each other. It focuses on how the original practitioners and their listeners change as they cultivate new Australian musical landscapes. The program showcases various aspects of 4 rich traditions - Indian, Iranian, Indonesian and Italian.

Among the artists involved are Sanacori, Misagh Zamani, Vinod Prasanna and Leo Dale, Ria Soemardjo, members of Gameland DanAnda, Mahindra Bali and Firetail ensembles. The performances will take place in a range of venues in Melbourne, including La Mama Theatre, Abbotsford Convent, and Cresfest in regional Victoria.
