The Music Between: Open Rehearsals With Sanacori

Free Entry. Presented by The Boite and La Mama Theatre.

Stroll by La Mama Theatre on Faraday St, Carlton between 2 - 4pm on Saturday 25 February to catch Sanacori work on their new show "Rapture" based on the ceremony of Pizzica.

Sanacori is a Southern Italian idiom for 'heart healers'. They are also a versatile and vibrant music ensemble reinterpreting traditional songs from Italy and the Mediterranean (Albania, Greece, Spain). Tastefully combining traditional and contemporary elements to their performances with soulful singing and storytelling.

Songs of love and longing, resistance and rebellion, with passion and cheekiness, elemental traits of Italian attitude and culture. Sanacori often work with Melbourne School of Tarantella. Tarantella is a dance of many different codes and symbolism that allows individual expression in a group setting, still a useful tool of communication. Together they create a welcoming and supportive environment where people of all ages and cultural backgrounds can connect and cooperate while learning the richness of this forgotten tradition.
Sancori is: Rosa Voto (vocals, tamburello, whistle, dance), Phil Carroll (accordion, ciaramella, flute and nay) and Renato Vacirca (guitar, percussions, vocals).

Pop by on Sunday 12 March you'll see Vinod Prasanna and Leo Dale rehearsing all sorts of interweaving melodies on bansuri, saxophone and more.

About The Music Between
The Boite’s new program of events "The Music Between" explores how musical traditions in Australia evolve and transform as they come into contact with each other. It will focus on how the original practitioners and their listeners change as they cultivate new Australian musical landscapes.
In this project we are showcasing various aspects of 4 rich traditions Indian, Iranian, Indonesian and Italian. Among the artists involved are Sanacori, Misagh Zamani, Vinod Prasanna and Leo Dale, Ria Soemardjo, members of Gameland DanAnda, Mahindra Bali and Firetail ensembles. The performances will take place in a range of venues in Melbourne, including La Mama Theatre, Abbotsford Convent, and CresFest in regional Victoria.
