Phil Edwards Band

Hailing from Hawke’s bay the Phil Edwards band has a distinctive summer feel to their soulful songs which range from warm acoustic ballads reminiscent of Jack Johnson through to blues numbers with a John Mayer / Ben Harper feel.

The unique honesty and feeling captivated in Phil's lyrics separates the band from others in the genre with a prominent theme of love and good times. The songs naturally have a strong commercial appeal with catchy sing along melodies allowing for a wide target audience.

Phil Edwards (vocals / guitar): None other than Phil Edwards provides his warm vocals and catchy acoustic hooks. Phil has an uncanny ability to produce songs from almost any form of inspiration being the driving force behind the band.

Ryan Wilson (drums): Ryan has a long history of playing drums beginning at the tender age of three, providing a solid foundation and tasteful feel with his groove. Ryan has treated audiences throughout Australia and New Zealand touring with the likes of Billy TK junior and James Southwel. His years of experience and determination are a key part of the group.

Tom Charleson (guitar / BVs): Tom provides the icing on the cake with his John Mayer influenced guitar and live experience from touring both sides of the Tasman with Auckland Band Tahuna Breaks. Tom has helped direct the song writing with Phil for over 5 years.

Adrian Ashdown (bass): Completing the rhythm section with a distinctive style of bass is Adrian, also adding further experience and great feel with his rhythmic bass grooves.

James Townend (harp / percussion): Presenting a touch of extra energy James locks into the rhythm section with percussion, and complements the melodies with his harp playing.

Scott Grafton (Graffiti Entertainment) is working closely with the boys to make sure they are noticed.

The Band has almost completed production and mixing of their 14 track debut album. The guys are working with legendary engineer/producer Dave O’Donnell who is mixing the album based in New York. Dave has worked with artists such as John Mayer, Eric Clapton, James Taylor to name a few. Well known music video producer Ivan Slavov along with Greg Buckley have recently worked with the band to produce a very fitting video for their debut single “Crash” shot in Melbourne, Australia.

Phil Edwards Band has played a number of times throughout New Zealand. Although the band has only been around for about 16 months they have successful gigs at venues such as The Dogs Bollix, The Kings arms, Juice Bar, The Rising Sun, Shadows, Cabana, Diva, and Ivory Lounge to name a few. They are also very proud to have shared the stage with Tahuna Breaks, Vanessa Amorosi and The Thomas Oliver Band. The boys have recently arrived back from a short tour through Australia playing in the Moomba Water Festival in Melbourne, also travelling to Bondi and Byron Bay. 2010/11 summer is shaping up to be the start of something big, already securing spots in some great New Zealand festivals, and hopefully a return to Australian soil.

In early 2009 “I’m no fool” was picked up by 272 Records, a Californian based record label, and included on their “Acoustica” compilation album which is sold throughout the US and online. The band has received a number of invitations to be involved in various compilation projects throughout the US, which will be released in the near future. Some strong contacts in the US and UK suggest the band potentially have a very bright future.
