The Floors

In a world where music is an intangible thing we can listen to and move on from in the click of a mouse, The Floors are more akin to thumbing through dusty LPs on the shelves of an old record store; a tactile and visceral experience that, if not entirely traditional, keeps alive some of the more magical aspects of music.

They are musicians who live to play and to create living sound. Beautiful, ugly, imperfect and yet flawless... it is a spiritual understanding of Rhythm and Blues, un-f**ked-with by computers, radio formulas or a fear of not being marketable. It is musicians in a room, making music. Nothing else.

No matter which way you look at it, The Floors are a live band. Brothers Luke and Ryan Dux – troubadours who play not only with The Floors but also with Kill Devil Hills, Timothy Nelson And The Infidels and Will Stoker And The Embers – took home West Australian Music Industry Awards (WAMI) for Best Guitarist and Best Bassist respectively, in both 2009 and 2010... all based on the strength of live performance.

Luke’s enviable skill and authenticity as a guitarist, backed by Ryan’s colossal wall of bass, became a signature sound of its own as The Floors began performing around Australia. Add a stomping beat (courtesy of Perth go-to drummer Ashley Doodkorte), some dark lyrics and a voice that can own them; and what else does there need to be.

Even in the studio The Floors are a live band. They perform their songs together in a room, captured by a few German microphones and a friend with good ears. The life of the recording is the performance... the energy and chemistry of moments in time, somehow wrangled and squeezed through two speakers.

Set for release early 2012, The Floors’ debut album promises to be everything the band has become known for from the stage: the heart of a classic Delta bluesman, residing in an electrified world where amplifiers go to 11.
