Australia’s most iconic contemporary music festival, Big Day Out, has always locked in the best they possibly can for your ears and eyes, and they’ve now promised to include your tastebuds in the fun by promising to provide fantastic festival food as an additional artform.
The concept is called “Chow Town” and is named after the tasty town from its sister festival, Lollapalooza in Chicago.
The gents behind Porteno and Bodega, Ben Milgate and Elvis Abrahanowicz, are the next artists to be added to the line-up, as the “Culinary Outlaw” ambassadors for Chow Town, and will showcase the creme de la creme of Australian chefs’ and their signature, innovative and delicious hand help dishes, promising some big foodie names.
You’ll be able to chow down on American barbeque style brisket, pulled pork, lobster corn dogs, hand held tostadas de atun fresco, Chinese duck bao’s and more in Chow Town, the concept being that awesome food should be “egalitarian and everywhere”, setting up pop-up restaurants throughout the festival site in each city.
“Musicians are often passionate foodies, many chefs imbibe rock ’n’ roll and restaurateurs create playlists that are lovingly selected for their venues. The love of music and food is universal and we are bringing it to Big Day Out, it will be a win win for everyone,” said Ken West, Big Day Out’s creator and director.

The Big Day Out will be taking place throughout Australia in Sydney, Gold Coast, Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth, with a host of amazing artists like Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Killers, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Vampire Weekend, Band of Horses, Animal Collective, Sleigh Bells, Jeff The Brotherhood, OFF! and heaps more .
