Downtown Drive-In brings back the drive-in with bonus extras

Remember how awesome the drive-ins were and then The Man promoted cinemas so much they all died, and now you pay somewhere in the region of $70 for the experience of listening to two idiots behind you have a chat about one of their friends while you sit in a sticky, popcorn, sat-on-by-heaps-of-other-bums seat? I saw classics like My Girl and Casper at the drive-ins and it was golden.

Make out at the drive-in once more à la Grease, with Downtown Drive-In, an event designed to recreate the lost film experience but with a confident, contemporary (and like everything these days, corporate sponsored) twist.

The event will take place over three days in Sydney's Carriageworks, from Thursday 29 November to Saturday 1 November, showing a film a night from 7pm.

The three films included in the "Back Roads USA" theme are "new release" On The Road, "sentimental favourite" Planes, Trains and Automobiles, and "lost classic" Vanishing Point.

You can choose to drive your own ride in, sit shotgun up front on a deckchair, or experience sheer luxury in one of the Audis provided (expensive car pop-up shop anyone?)

The Dip are also putting on the noms with a tribute to the American theme, with an American diner style custom menu.

Tickets go onsale Wednesday 31 October, so do a Danny - ask your Sandy out and buy yourself a bucket of buttery good times (just don't maul your date in the car when they're trying to watch a movie and get stranded at the drive-ins. Danny was such a mug, but he came good in the end).
