Perth Festival reveals biggest ever program for 2013

Perth International Arts Festival has released its program for 2013, with artists and events exploding from its sides in the festival’s most plentiful and diverse schedule so far.

Over 500 artists of incredible imagination, vivacity and originality, both Australian and from abroad, will perform or showcase at the festival next year, which will run from 8 February to 2 March 2013, with some exhibitions and screenings running between 25 November 2012 to 14 April 2013.

Some of the artists that will be appearing throughout the festival include Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Father John Misty, Sleepy Sun, Cat Power, the West Australian Ballet, Gregory Page, Archie Roach, Philip Glass, Karin Schaupp and Pavel Steidl, and more more artists greatly admired in their respective fields.

The massive program includes 31 Australian premieres, 25 Australian exclusives, three world premieres, three commissions, five co-commissions, and more than 820 events and 250 film screenings, plus mini festivals like the Perth Writers Festival and the National Play Festival.

The festival was founded in 1953 by The University of Western Australia, and is the longest running international arts festival in Australia and Western Australia’s premier cultural event, gaining a worldwide reputation for excellence in its international program, the presentation of new works and the highest quality artistic experiences for its audience.

For 60 years the Perth Festival has connected with over 700,000 people each year, and continues to host some of the world’s best artists.

Tickets will start to go onsale from this week.
