Art Adrift floats Fremantle Festival’s boat

Featuring at the iconic and 108 year old Fremantle Festival that will run from October 27 to November 10 this year, Art Adrift is a series of floating and sculpted artworks created with sea drift materials sourced from the nearby Cocos Keeling and Christmas Islands, and Fremantle itself.

Art Adrift was designed and crafted by local artists Sandy McKendrick, Emma Washer and Cara Ratajczak and will be installed in the iconic Fishing Boat Harbour.

The floating vessels or stepping-stones are paired with an adjoining exhibition on land and aim to represent the bridging of gaps between the three coastal communities where their materials come from.

Also debuting the Fremantle Festival this year is a series of performances by renowned West Australian composer Ross Bolleter to take place on a ruined piano inside the historic Round House.

Over 100 different cultural events will be running as part of the festival this year including local annual favourites like the Blessing of the Fleet, Children's Fiesta, Wardarnji, Norfolk Lanes Youth Festival, Black Box Theatre and the Street Parade.
