TLC Return To Australia This November

It will surely rain soul and hip-hop vibes in Australia this November as grammy-award winning and history’s most influential female hip-hop and R&B acts, TLC will be touring down under, bringing their sassy and sophisticated R&B style in Sydney, where they will do two consecutive performances, and Melbourne. Apart from these venues, the group will also be performing in Adelaide as part of RnB Fridays Live.

TLC, composed of three empowered women, Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas and Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, was formed in Atlanta in 1991. They are a five-time Grammy Award winning act, selling over 65 million records worldwide.

Tragically in 2002, Lopes was killed in a car accident in Honduras. Refusing to call it quits in honour of their fallen sister, T-Boz and Chilli have since continued to tour worldwide as a duo.

In 1994, TLC released CrazySexyCool which spawned iconic jams like ‘Waterfalls’, ‘If I Was Your Girlfriend’ (penned by the late icon Prince) and ‘Creep’. Selling over 11 million copies in America alone, the record garnered six Grammy nominations, and won Best R&B Album. The truly iconic nature of CrazySexyCool remains true, following an entry in Rolling Stone magazine’s 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time.

"CrazySexyCool is a sensual, coming-of-age sophomore album, and it remains a remarkably timeless link to what being a guileless, horny twentysomething is like in any era." - Consequence of Sound

Their third record FanMail enjoyed eight Grammy Award nominations, taking home the coveted Album of the Year and Best R&B Album. Its singles ‘No Scrubs’ and ‘Unpretty’ won Record of the Year and Best Video respectively. In Australia, the album is certified platinum, while in America it’s achieved a diamond certification for selling more than 10 million copies.

Earlier this year, TLC announced a new album for 2016, their first in over a decade which will also serve as their final album. Very little is known about the album, with the only public statement from the ladies reading:

“This album, our final album, is dedicated to all of you that have stuck with us, always challenging us to do our best. And of course, it's for the new fans too! We just want to put out great music that touches everyone. That's it".

Joining TLC in the Adelaide show will be fellow ‘90s R&B hitmaker, Montell Jordan. Montell has been dropping hip hop and soul jams since bursting onto the scene with chart-topping single ‘This Is How We Do It’, which became one of the best-selling records of 1995. His debut album of the same name landed at #1 in America, introducing him into international success.

TLC were joined at their debut Australian shows by a full band and stunning backdrop images paying tribute to Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes. Reviewers and fans alike were touched by the nostalgic nature of the shows and reminded of TLC’s truly iconic musical catalogue.
