Port Fairy Folk Festival 2016

2016 is a celebration of the 40th festival story as the achievement of community, volunteers, music industry, artists and staff along with our passionate audience.

Port Fairy Folk Music Festival started  in December 1977 when the festival came to town – it was literally on the back of a truck – as a freewheeling cultural freedom ride of sorts.

Today, it is one of the amazing festival gatherings singing by the oceans of the south-west coast.

Since its inception the festival will have presented around 3,500 acts including over 500 internationals and over 12,000 musicians to an audience of beyond 240,000 ticket holders and 1,000,000 attendances to the wee village of Port Fairy. With a wonderful array of artists announced the festival aims to explore and present the diversity and discovery of folk, roots and world music live on stage next March.

Recent announcement includes “something old, something new, something blue” such as Jaaleekaay (Gambia) and Songhoy Blues (Mali); Luka Bloom, Róisín O  and Rambling Boys from Ireland; contemporary trendsetters Kate Miller-Heidke and Robert Forster, the blues of Mia Dyson and Ash Grunwald; the great local talents such as Tom Richardson, The Howard Family, Dalriada, Hog Stompin Zydecats, Lost in Suburbia and lots more!
