Australian Hall
Website
Built between 1910 and 1913, Australian Hall is the first non-Aboriginal structure to be recognised in Australia as an Aboriginal heritage site. In 1938, it was the location for the first national Aboriginal civil rights gathering. Convened by the Aboriginals Progressive Association, they campaigned for citizen’s rights. The building has a long and varied association with Australian political history. Originally erected for German Migrants as a place to meet it was later purchased by a Catholic organisation and in 1979 the Hellenic Club purchased it. In 1999 the building was purchased and refurbished by the Metropolitan Aboriginal Association.
There have been several uses for the space over the years and AIM is honoured to lease this space for classes and performances. In July this year, Australian Hall was the venue for the inaugural Sydney International Brass Festival, seeing some of the best musicians from Australia and around the world perform. AIM has restored Australian Hall to be concert ready. It is a wonderful space for Theatre, rehearsals and Classical performances.
