Russell Street, Melbourne CBD, Melbourne
Centrally located in the Melbourne CBD near the Paris end of Collins, the Kelvin Club is a private members club for both women and men. Founded in 1927 by a group of enterprising lawn bowlers and engineers, the club continues to honour their respect for both tradition and innovation. These values are woven throughout the activities and interests of our members, the Kelvin Club community.
Tradition is reflected in our formal dining room, traditional table service and the club’s excellent cellar. Our décor includes paintings and artifacts which open small windows onto Australian history. The large billiard room reminds us that this was once a gentleman’s club as do the burning logs in the open fireplace.
Innovation is evident in the informal bar, our broad menu, and the specialties created by our chef for our many functions. As our membership diversifies, we find new nights being included in the calendar, such as our Gilbert & Sullivan, Italian Opera, Greek and Jazz nights. Our dining room is an outstanding musical venue, being the old ABC recording studio, but the walls also speak of new fashions and ideas as members take advantage of the venue for work and family functions.
The club offers members many facilities: a lively bar, an elegant dining room, a broad cuisine, a billiard room and comfortable corners where members have quiet conversations with friends - perhaps about a reciprocal club they intend to visit overseas - or business acquaintances with whom they wish to speak in confidence.
On any night you will find members at the club. They may be sipping that quiet coffee or drink, having a quick meal before the theatre, mingling with friends they have invited to a special function, indulging in a night cap after one of Melbourne’s artistic or sporting events, perhaps playing snooker or bridge. Regardless, they can be assured that the service will always be excellent.
