107 Projects have created a cutting edge, hybrid art space in the heart of Redfern, to give Sydneysiders a new cultural and community hub. To celebrate the opening of this amazing new venue, the people at 107 Projects will open their doors and artful hearts to the public, this September 8 from 12pm-4pm where entry is free.

The open day will allow the community to see the artists in their natural habitat, lurking behind the paint, or sticking that last little piece of silly string to the ceiling, in the open artist studios.

While soaking up some magical sounds from the days’ live musical act Nic Cassey who will be performing a preview of his album, before its October 6th launch at 107. Visitors can also enjoy the first taste of the new show ‘masterclass’ with Charlie Garber and Gareth Davies and be treated to various poetry readings throughout the day.

The open day will have artist presentations and workshops running throughout and to fill those hungry tummies, event sponsors Yelp will be running a BBQ.

The open day will also play host to the thought provoking exhibition, ‘Why White?’ which looks in to the phenomenon of modernism and white walls. The exhibition is a proud part of Art & About and will be curated by Australian artist Michelle McCosker. ‘Why White?’ promises to be an exhibition that will keep the art world talking for an age and is one that should not be missed.

‘Why White?’ showcases the work of some of Australia’s most promising artists including Hiske Weijers, Sean O’Connell, Jonathan James, Victoria Lobregat, Susan MacDonald, Louise Coxx, Bec Paton, Equilibrium Design Studio and many more.

Those looking for a more hands on experience can get involved in tote bag customisation or one of the multiple workshops that will be offered throughout the day.

The culturally expressive space will exhibit various artistic disciplines, focusing on audience experience and interactivity, as well as being affordable and accessible for the broader public and community spirited.

There is currently no other place in Sydney that offers a comparable mix of activities, or a similarly socially supportive environment.

107 Projects is the vision of seven of the driving forces behind Knot Gallery, The Frequency Lab, and Token Imagination. Since the closing of the Elizabeth Street space they have pursued careers as producers, artists, designers and hospitality professionals; collectively producing work for many of Australia’s premier festivals and art events.
