Courtney Barnett launched her debut EP - I've Got a Friend Called Emily Ferris - in Melbourne last month to sweet acclaim. Since then it's been blasted on triple j, 3RRR and PBS, and has been hoarding rad community radio vibes all around Australia. So we thought we'd go to Hobart and have a party with our friends Royston Vasie.

Courtney Barnett wrote these songs by accident when she was playing with her new loop pedal. After listening to that new Kurt Vile record, seeing Adalita's new solo stuff live, and listening to a lot of BJM, she was working on a theory that you could write a song with pretty much just one progression that is still super cool, catchy and beautiful. In November 2011, Courtney got three of the best musicians she knows: Pete Convery and Alex Hamilton (Merri Creek Pickers) and Brent DeBoer (The Dandy Warhols, Immigrant Union) and without really teaching them the songs they went to a friends lounge room and recorded the six track EP. Mess + Noise's Doug Wallen said it has a "shambling, psych-waggled continuity that makes the six songs blend into one winding road".

Royston Vasie are joining in with the second single, 'Come On', off their new album Tanah Merah due August 2012. They supported Ben Kweller on tour earlier this year, and the guys from FasterLouder said they sound kinda "Someday Shambles-era Jebediah meets Pixies rock ‘n’ roll".
