Like the title character in Arthur Miller's play, Tomoaki Sunada was once work-obsessed; now his career is over and thoughts turn to family. Recently retired, Tomoaki is diagnosed with terminal cancer. A practical man, he starts to organise his death: a visit to the priest, a funeral plan and a list of things he'd like to do before he goes - his 'end-of-life journal'. A common practice in Japan, Sunada's journal includes saying "I love you" to his wife and playing with his grandchildren. His filmmaker daughter Mami follows his final months, speaking as her father and using extracts from his diary. A prize winner at both the Dubai and Chicago International Film Festivals, and acclaimed by critics at home, this is a pragmatic yet immensely moving tribute to the end of a life.

Screens with short film Playing Ghost.
