If you are looking for fun and excitement, something different to do, then the Goomeri Pumpkin Festival is the place for you. Held annually on the last Sunday in May, in 2012 the Goomeri Pumpkin Festival will be celebrating its 16th anniversary on Sunday 27th May. Entry to the festival is free.

A licensed dinner dance will be held on Saturday 26th May at the Goomeri Hall of Memory. A delicious country-style meal is served complimented by local wines, with dancing until midnight – all served with a touch of pumpkin, a perfect start to a great weekend.

Sunday morning, and the normally quiet streets are a hive of activity. As day breaks market stallholders prepare for a big day ahead. Over 200 quality market stalls will line the streets of Goomeri.

A fun filled day of entertainment, demonstrations and displays is planned for festival day including Guy McLean, the Horseman from Susan River, Dreamtime Reptiles, Memphis Movers, the Gleneden Bullock Team, whipcracking demonstrations, street parade, a variety of music, just to mention a few.

Of course the pumpkin fun is non-stop. Children and adults can enter their very own decorated pumpkins and giant pumpkins in competitions and ‘have a go’ at pumpkin bowls. For the patchwork people there is always the “Pumpkin Patchwork Challenge”. Entries will be displayed at the quilt show on festival day. There is also the Pumpkin Pageant, Pumpkin Power Shot Put and the Pumpkin Pull. Details are available on the pumpkin festival website and you can even register online for some competitions.

The pumpkin action doesn’t stop there. The highlight of the festival is the Great Australian Pumpkin Roll™, unique to Goomeri. At 2pm, everyone heads to the infamous Policeman’s Hill to test their pumpkin rolling skills. Not that the $1000 lucky spot prize is the incentive. The thrill of rolling a pumpkin down the steep hill and across the closed highway in front of thousands of people is enough to start the adrenaline pumping. Sounds of fun and laughter fill the air as the pumpkins roll and splatter down the long, steep hill.

For those with an appetite, all types of tempting pumpkin delights are available, as well as cooking demonstrations.

Don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy warm, friendly country hospitality and entertainment at its very best. For more information phone (07) 4168 1925 or visit
