Celebrate Australia’s golden moment and revel in the Olympic spirit at Sandringham Yacht Club this December as the first leg of the prestigious ISAF Sailing World Cup returns to Melbourne, Australia.

This world class regatta provides an opportunity for local and international Olympic athletes as well as a new generation of sailors to compete for the world title and commence their 2016 campaign for Rio de Janeiro.

As elite athletes contest the title, Sail Melbourne strengthens its status as Melbourne’s premier lifestyle sailing event, as the Sailing World Cup Carnival continues to feature live music, fashion, great food and family entertainment. Guests of the Official World Cup Dinner will be given the opportunity to pay tribute to the Australian Sailing Team while the Sail Experience Luncheon will return with a golden focus as we welcome the athletes back to our shores.

From a grassroots perspective, our young aspiring athletes will have the chance to rub shoulders with their Olympic heroes at a dedicated inspirational after school event. Sail Melbourne will also be hosting an Olympic Roadshow to celebrate our athletes’ success, bringing Olympic medallists to the people with a number of activities taking place at yacht clubs around the bay.

In addition, Sail Melbourne will work in conjunction with Yachting Victoria’s Discover Sailing team and event partner Play it Safe by the Water to implement a week-long program aimed at educating local schoolchildren and parents about sailing in a fun, safe environment on Port Phillip Bay.

In 2012 Sail Melbourne welcomes new additions to Olympic Class Sailing including kiteboarding, Catamaran (Nacra 17) and Women’s Skiff (49er fx), with all three events adding a new dynamic to the World Cup line up moving forward.

Sport and industry will reunite to join forces to leverage Australia’s Olympic success and lead the way forward as the 11th International Sailing Summit (ISS) returns to Sail Melbourne. This prestigious event is a worldwide industry forum bringing together the best in the business and will focus on mass participation, sustainability and innovation for marine industry growth.

Melbourne and Port Phillip Bay are recognised as premium sailing destinations, providing competitive conditions and a stunning backdrop for an international event. The newly built Sandringham Yacht Club is a state-of-the-art venue for athletes to showcase their sailing excellence, with outstanding facilities and sophisticated new infrastructure.

The 2012-13 ISAF Sailing World Cup features five regattas globally, of which Sail Melbourne is the first. Following Melbourne, teams will compete in Miami, USA; Palma, Spain; Hyeres, France; finishing in Medemblik, The Netherlands.
