At play / pause / play, we're all about Adelaide music. We've covered more than 100 Adelaide bands in our weekly[ish] podcast, and we just keep finding more gold.

In September, we hosted our first showcase of the best of the best. That was only the beginning. The next #pppparty is on December 22 with another corker of a line-up, featuring three bands that appear on our "Best Of Adelaide 2012" compilation album. Download the compilation for free at

The bands:

Sincerely, Grizzly
Whilst participating in an American-Indian sweat to find their collective animal spirit guide, Calligeros, Farley and Mount summoned Sincerely, Grizzly; the bear spirit. In return for his guidance, he condemned them to eternal slavery. This has not been all bad for the band thusfar, having supported their key musical inspiration …And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead (US) late last year, and since then, going on to release an EP, showcasing at BIGSOUND Live and supporting The Medics on a national tour.

The Rules (comeback show)
Featuring the incredible vocal talents of Carla Lippis, The Rules are what happens when a bazooka with an attitude problem meets a machine gun with a broken heart.

Hawks Of Alba (also comeback show)
Having been described as “Heartbreak High narrated by The Breeders”, with “robot precision” and “chipmunk cuteness”, Hawks Of Alba were thrust into the music world by Triple J before they had played a gig together. “Look What You’ve Become” received airplay on Triple J and the band went on to win a spot on the Adelaide 2010 Big Day Out (Hannah’s third ever gig.)

play / pause / play is an Adelaide music blog and podcast that was started to address a gaping hole in the local music scene: we’ve got so much talent, but barely anyone’s talking about it. We’ve covered over 100 local bands in the last 12 months. Now we’re picking the best to showcase live.
