It’s that time of year again! We’ve survived the Royal Adelaide Show, the AFL Grand Final has been won by the victorious team, and Christmas decorations are in the shops which means it’s not far away. As we enter the last months of the year, the Community Program members here at Blackwood Uniting Church are working towards their own big event, the Roundabout Craft Fair & Exhibition held every year at the end of November. It’s a great community event held over two days, attracting hundreds of people from all over Adelaide to view the beautiful art work and craft pieces our students have created during the year and also do some Christmas shopping.

The Community Program currently has close to 300 members attending each week, with much socialising always happening over a good cup of tea or coffee. For many it’s not simply learning new craft skills or completing projects for loved ones, but more the feeling of community and strong friendships built over the years. Many members started attending when their children were babies, but now these children are grown adults and the parents have continued with the Community Program. Talk about dedication!

To celebrate the end of the year the Community Program hosts a two day Fair & Exhibition to showcase the diversity of the crafts learnt, but to also show the local community what the program is about and what we have to offer. This year it will be held on Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th November, and will include an exhibition of artwork and craft items such as teddy bears, mosaics and quilts galore. There will also be stall holders from the local community selling gifts in time for Christmas as well as jams and cakes, our popular plant stall, and much more! Come for an enjoyable time, see what’s on offer and taste some delicious food from the café. Feel free to bring the kids too, there’s something for everyone!
