Screening Buster Keaton’s cinema classic, the greatest comedy ever made, Sherlock, Jr (1924) with a live performance of Katherine Corecig's new soundtrack by the Viola Dana.

At only 45 minutes in length, Sherlock Jr is packed full of Buster Keaton’s trademark humour and stars Keaton as a projectionist who is studying to be a detective and is in love with a young lady. When he proposes for her hand in marriage, his rival steals the chain watch of her father and incriminates him.

The downtrodden young projectionist returns to his job and while projecting the film, he dreams of being the detective of the story. At this Grove Classics event, Viola Dana will also launch their debut album, featuring selections from their soundtrack for ‘The General’.

The soundtrack was well received at its world premiere at the 2009 Revelation Perth International Film Festival. The Revelation team had the following to say on their website wrap-up of the Festival’s events: ‘One of the faves though would have to be the live performance by Viola Dana to Buster Keaton’s The General. Standing ovation and all, their work was nothing short of brilliant…it brought the house down.’

Viola Dana have been invited to perform their soundtrack for The General live to a screening of the film at the 2013 Toronto Silent Film Festival and also at the Mayfair Theatre in Ottawa in April 2013.
