Brewster Brothers Announce String Of Dates For Blowin’ In The Wind Tour - Performing The Songs Of Bob Dylan And Their Own Extensive Back Catalogue

As one of the country’s most respected songwriting duos, Brewster Brothers have penned some of Australia’s most iconic hits. They not only co-founded legendary rock band The Angels and celebrated success with their 1970s outfit Moonshine Jug and String band, but have also established themselves as a duo to be reckoned with, touring the country extensively as the Brewster Brothers and releasing several albums to acclaim. Their most recent release Brewster Brothers play Bob Dylan – the music that defined the 60s is the inspiration behind their current run of dates – Blowin’ in the Wind.

After the release of the album two years ago and a string of sold-out dates, John and Rick Brewster are taking to the road again to share the songs that inspired them. These shows are special as they don’t only feature classic Dylan songs from the album, but also tracks from the Brewster Brothers back catalogue, taking audiences on a journey through the brothers’ extensive career. For John Brewster, performing Dylan songs harks back to his childhood. Songs from Dylan, The Beatles and The Band was his musical upbringing.

“I learned how to write songs by learning how to play Bob Dylan songs,” says John. “Every new album he released, I learned every song. A lot is made of Dylan’s lyrics and rightly so. They are brilliant, but just as compelling are his melodies and musical structure. I’ve always thought that if you can strip a song back to one acoustic guitar and a vocal and it works, that makes it a good song.”

When it comes to songwriters in Australia, they don’t get much better than John and Rick Brewster. They’ve both been inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame and the Australian Songwriters Hall of Fame. Their duo project under the guise of the Brewster Brothers came about to develop new material inspired by their upbringing in Adelaide. Even while writing and touring with The Angels, the brothers were working away on their side project, penning tracks that reflect Rick’s early classical piano playing and John’s love of the early greats.

Brewster Brothers tracks, whether penned for the duo or in fitting rock style for The Angels, all contain majestic melodies and poetic images. All of their songs are born from their musical lifestyle, the days and nights travelling the roads around Australia and playing to audiences in all styles of venues. It’s no surprise their songs have become ingrained in the Australian psyche. With four albums under their belt, Shadows Fall, Brewster Brothers in Concert at Port Fairy Folk Festival, Wounded Healer and Brewster Brothers play Bob Dylan, and enough songs stored up for another release, it’s evident Australia will be hearing more from the Brewster Brothers in the future.

John Brewster says the brothers have been working through their repertoire of songs and will be adding more Dylan tracks to their setlist for the Blowin’ in the Wind tour. “There’ll be songs that don’t appear on the first album like Visions of Johanna, Shooting Star, Desolation Row, Ramona and others,” he says.
