Adapted and directed by Emma Rice
Remembered as one of the most haunting love stories ever, Noël Coward’s Brief Encounter is retold by one of the UK’s most admired, award-winning theatre companies.
Switching seamlessly between theatre and film, using a combination of Coward’s original stage play, Still Life, and footage inspired by David Lean’s classic 1945 film, Brief Encounter takes us back to a bygone age of romance and the silver screen.
The irresistible passion of the chance encounter by Laura, a married woman, and the handsome Dr Alec Harvey in the famous railway station tea room is again brought to life in a breathtaking, delightfully funny and touching show interspersed with Coward’s typically debonair and witty songs.
Nominated for 4 Olivier and 2 Tony Awards, Melbourne audiences will see Brief Encounter in the original production that has already captured the imagination of audiences from London’s West End to Broadway, New York.
“A first-class return to romance” - The Daily Telegraph (UK)
“The most enchanting work of stagecraft ever inspired by a movie... exquisite” - The New York Times (USA)
