Canberra Paralympian set to be Claus for a Cause

Five time Paralympian and Canberra local, Richard Nicholson is getting set to Ho Ho Go, by becoming a Claus for a Cause in the annual 2013 Variety Santa Fun Run.

This year will be extra-ordinary as Santa’s in every capital city in Australia will be running, walking, skipping and dancing their respective routes on the same date, December 1st, for the first time ever!

Richard, who is the official Ambassador for the Santa Fun Run in Canberra, is urging other prospective Canberra Santas to run, hop, skip and wheel themselves alongside him on the new and exciting route, starting and ending at Reconciliation Place (below Old Parliament house) in a scenic city loop. Participants can look forward to a winding five kilometres alongside the water, Lake Burley Griffin, alongside their Santa counterparts, whilst providing a festive sight to see for Sunday morning city dwellers!
In addition to his sporting achievements, which include three Paralympic medals in powerlifting and wheelchair racing, Richard has dedicated his life to assisting disabled people to become involved in sport and recreation. Given his active role in the sporting community and efforts to help others achieve their sporting potential, Richard jumped at the opportunity to support Variety with this novel event to benefit sick, disabled and disadvantaged children. He says, “I am looking forward to participating with my family and am very excited to be part of a charity who I really believe in.”

A sassy Santa costume is included in the entry price to make sure you look the part! In fact the light cotton shorts, top, belt, hat and beard pay homage to a warm Australian Christmas and ensure a cool and carefree group of Santas and no disgruntled grinches!

To become part of this colossal Christmassy event, you can register online for the price of $30 for adults, $15 for children, while little Elves (two years and under) can join the fun for free! Friends, families and corporate groups of four or more can get a further $5 off when entering as a team. Registrations will be open right up until the day before the event.
Variety is asking Canberra residents to become a Claus for a Cause and help raise vital funds for specialised mobility equipment, helping disadvantaged kids gain self-esteem and independence.

For those who want to stand out from the crowd, Variety are offering a special incentive of coveted gold Santa hats for individuals who fundraise over $1,000 or $5,000 as a group. These hats can be worn as a badge of honour on the day, signifying the tremendous above-and-beyond fund raising efforts of these valued Variety supporters.
