This year will bring the biggest Lunar New Year Celebration ever held in Adelaide. Chinatown Adelaide South Australia (CASA) in partnership with the Adelaide City Council, will hold the Chinatown Adelaide Lunar New Year Street Party in Moonta St, Gouger Street and several lane ways in the surrounding precinct. For the first time Gouger Street will be closed and transformed into a vibrant bustling bazaar. 30+ performers, 60+ stalls, lion dances, free family friendly activities, competitions, live music and giveaways will keep you entertained until late.

AVCon and Harajuku no Yoko will be located at the east end of Gouger Street. Check out DJ’s, anime, competitions, kids activities, demonstrations and Adelaide’s best cosplayers. AVCOon are hosting outdoor gaming tournements and a cosplay competition with great prizes. Finalists from the cosplay competition will be featured on the main stage. Harajuku no Yoko will be holding a Lunar New Year Edition on the day with all the usual fun including fashion parades, cool traders like Pastel Hospital and Zombie Cupcake Couture and some more surprises soon to be announced.

Entertainment starts at 12pm and continues on until late! Performances include local traditional and contemporary acts and dancers. Lion Dances and firecrackers will usher in the year of the snake.

In the evening the stage under Chinatown’s iconic Peifang gates will feature upbeat live music and performances. A featured act is George & Noriko, a crowd favourite on Australia’s Got Talent. “Known as the Japanese Blues Cowboy and the Tsugaru shamisen player, George and Noriko have been kicking up a storm wherever they play. His lightning fast blues licks, and growling harmonica enhanced by the percussive sounds of the traditional, fretless three-string shamisen has morphed into a kind of bluegrass hard country blues.”

Street Restaurant:
For the first time during a Lunar New Celebration Gouger street will be closed. Aside from many stalls and street activities the street will be filled with tables to allow guests to participate in a mass outdoor dining spectacle. You will be able to sample food from any Gouger Street restaurant. Between 6 and 9pm you can book a table for $88. This reserves a table for your family, friends or organisation. Each table seats 8 people. You may purchase food and alcohol from nearby restaurants who will be prepared for you with signature dishes. Participating businesses will be contributing to surprise baskets of goodies. A fantastic way to spend the evening as the street lights up with cultural decorations, lanterns and performances.
You will be able to book safely and securely through our online ticketing system. You will be allocated a numbered table and our helpful volunteers will ensure you can locate your table. We will be placing decorative signs on each table to showcase the support of your group or organisation of our inaugural street restaurant.
