Being a dad - it takes more than just firing sperm into a cup. But how much more?

That’s the question UK-born musical comedian Luke Escombe attempts to answer in his new show “Daddy Pimp”, which is playing at the Butterfly Club on Collins Street from October 30th to November 3rd.

Who is Luke Escombe? According to the Sydney Morning Herald he’s a “rock-soul singer, raconteur, blistering blues guitarist, comedian and songwriter…and very good at them all”.

His 2011 Green-Room-award-nominated show “Chronic” took him across the seas to the Edinburgh Fringe and to festivals around Australia and led to him performing at Parliament House and becoming an ambassador for two different health groups. In 2012, he turned his focus back on rock and roll, releasing his second studio album “Mantown”, which went on to spend 9 straight months in the top ten of the Australian Blues and Roots charts, earning him comparisons to everyone from Bruce Springsteen to Tim Minchin.

But it’s what happened in between those studio and tour dates that provides the inspiration for “Daddy Pimp”. Performed on electric and acoustic guitar, Casio keyboard, drum machine and foot stomp, this show is a funky comic odyssey of love, fatherhood and doing what needs to be done, delivered by one of the most exciting emerging talents in the country.
