Enjoy an evening of Indian classical music with a western twist by esteemed North Indian slide guitarist Debasis Chakroborty performing with Sam Evans and Stephen Magnusson. The show will feature traditional Indian music as well as original compositions by the performers.

Debasis Chakroborty is one of India’s foremost Indian Classical Guitar players and his style of playing combines both Gayaki (vocal style) and Tantrakari Ang (instrumental styles). Performing on the modern modified slide guitar, his musical style follows the oldest tradition of playing sarod, sitar and veena. Purity of style, uniqueness of imagination, total absorption in the melody coupled with his brilliant technique in which Tantrakari and Layakari (rhythmic patterns) are prominent in his music and make his recital absolutely enchanting.

After a decade of study in India, Sam Evans has established himself as a modern voice in the world of tabla. His distinctive approach expresses both a sense of spaciousness and the vibrant sophistication of the Indian tabla tradition.

Stephen Magnusson is considered one of Australia’s most accomplished, versatile and distinct musicians with incredible technique and an astoundingly beautiful tone. His hectic schedule shows that he is a delight to work with and someone that has something to say in the world of improvised music.
