Encuentros Españoles (Spanish Encounters) celebrates the nexus of Spanish music and dance and is the first international festival of its kind in Australia. A range of exciting events will be on offer during the week of 19 to 27 October at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music including:
- Innovative concerts featuring unique fusions of Spanish classical music and dance
- Fascinating lecture/presentations
- Masterclasses and workshops by renowned Spanish music experts.

Exploring links between flamenco dance and the keyboard music of the great Spanish nationalist composers such as Albéniz, Granados and de Falla, the program will showcase distinguished international and local artists, dancers and composers who share a common passion for Spanish music.

The works of these Spanish composers are little played or understood here in Australia. Since the influence of flamenco is unmistakable in many of their compositions, it is important to explore the aesthetics and spirit of flamenco music and the legacy of Iberian folk music in general, in order to arrive at a deeper understanding of this music.
