Take Dad on the Best Walk In The World this Father's Day.

Fantasea Harbour Hike and SIMS Marine Festival Provides Fit and Fun Day Out for Whole Family

Some 3,000 hikers including dads of all ages will take to the spectacular Harbour foreshore paths around the lower north shore this Father’s Day, Sunday 1 September to help discover the secrets of Sydney Harbour and raise much needed funds for marine research.

Regarded as one of the best walks in the world, the 12km Fantasea Harbour Hike, being held for the third year, starts under the famed Sydney Harbour Bridge and culminates with the SIMS Marine Festival at the Chowder Bay finish line, home of the Sydney Institute of Marine Science (SIMS).

Fantasea Harbour Hike is an easy to moderate walk taking in the best vistas that Sydney Harbour has to offer providing an opportunity for families, colleagues, friends, and individuals to participate in a healthy and fun community event on Father’s Day. Funds raised on the day benefit SIMS’ Sydney Harbour Research Program which aims to “future proof” the harbour.

SIMS Scientists will be at 10 check-points along the paths where questions about Sydney Harbour’s marine life and natural environment are asked – the most correct answers win great prizes. Food stalls, live entertainment and children’s activities along with displays and information about Sydney Harbour await hikers at the finish line at the SIMS Marine Festival at Clifton Gardens Reserve.

Organisers are urging hikers to register early as the number of walkers is limited to the first 3,000 people. Entry fees for Fantasea Harbour Hike are: $35 for adults and $25 for children 12 years and under. Participants are encouraged to have their friends and families sponsor their walk with additional prizes for the top fundraisers.

Fantasea Harbour Hike participants will each receive a free ferry trip back to the start line on board a Fantasea boat, an event passport with a course map and questions about Sydney Harbour.

Last year hikers, including some of NSW’s most famous dads, hailed from as far afield as the ACT, Orange, Taree and Coffs Harbour, as well as from across Sydney’s greater metropolitan area.

Fantasea Harbour Hike starts progressively under the Sydney Harbour Bridge, between 8am and 12noon on 1 September and follows a path taking in Kirribilli, Neutral Bay, Shell Cove, Cremorne Point, Mosman Bay, Sirius Cove, Taronga Zoo, and the Sydney Harbour National Park at Bradley’s Head around to Clifton Gardens Reserve, Mosman, a distance of 12km. It takes the average walker around three hours to complete the undulating harbour foreshore course.

Registrations are now open on the Fantasea Harbour Hike website above.
