Join us by the Swan River at dusk to welcome the 61st Perth International Arts Festival.

Drawing together voices and ideas from the earliest Noongar stories through to some of the world’s most celebrated writing, we invite you to revel in the creative beginnings that open so many possibilities.

In Matilda Bay, next to The University of Western Australia whose beginnings were close to this very spot 100 years ago, we open with a Welcome to Country, Shakespearian sonnets in Noongar by Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company, and special guest Archie Roach performs, joined by Noongar singers, to share songs in a celebration of Western Australia and our place in the world.

Following Beginnings, walk across to UWA’s beautiful campus and join the Centenary celebration, LUMINOUSnight. For one night only, UWA will come alive in a blast of art and light to commemorate its history. From 7pm until midnight, the campus will be transformed into a spectacular walk-through gallery and performance space.
