‘A diverse and captivating art show on your doorstep’

If you’re after stunning artworks by renowned artists, market stalls in abundance, delicious Australian and international cuisine, and activities galore to thrill and exhaust the kids, then Holy Family Primary School on the Highway at Lindfield is the place to be this weekend.

After 37 years of staging this event, Holy Family has built a reputation for hosting one of the most long-running, successful school art shows on the North Shore. And this year will be no exception.

The newly named Lindfield Art Show promises a fresh new perspective from previous years. The organising committee has spent many months sourcing new artists and gathering the latest offerings from independent artists and major Sydney galleries whose works have been popular at the show in the past. The result is a beautiful and diverse collection of more than 300 artworks, including paintings, screen-prints, indigenous works, etchings, sculptures, paper art and vintage posters.

The 2013 show will also feature artists-in-residence, so onlookers can experience first-hand the processes involved in producing a work of art.

Among those exhibiting will be celebrated artist David Bromley, who will showcase works from his children’s series and female nude series.

Artists that will be participating in the show for the first time include Al Phemister, a sculptor who morphs rusted steel forms into sculptures that have a sense of gentleness and movement; Sharon Candy, whose contemporary-style paintings feature contrasting colour and texture to portray nature and beauty; Felicia Aroney, an artist who draws on her Greek heritage and experience of the Australian bush to produce richly-textured paintings of fairy wrens; Skye Llewellyn who will be bringing her homage to Picasso’s love of his goat and all the goats Picasso loved; and Timothy Hutchinson’s striking landscapes, fuse rich colours with generous paint use and his distinctive gestural style to reflect the moods and nuances of the Australian bush.

Joy Schmidt returns with paintings from her ballerina series and stunning landscapes, and Rosalind Friday will exhibit some of her captivating watercolours depicting life’s precious moments with quintessential backdrops. Michael Brewster from Studio M Vintage Posters will be back with more than 100 original lithographic posters from the 1880s to the present day.

In addition to numerous individual artists, some of Sydney’s leading art galleries are once again contributing to the show. Moulton Galleries and Georgina Hart Studio will be returning with a selection of works, and Gallery Oscar and Design Destination Sydney will be participating for the first time.

The gallery will be open for viewing and purchases from 9am to 5pm on Saturday the 16th of March and from 9am to 2pm on Sunday the 17th of March.

Outside the serenity of the art gallery, Holy Family School will be abuzz with activity on Saturday the 16th, as the annual festival takes place, with all the fun and games that a traditional school fete has to offer.

There will be a cafe serving gourmet cakes and coffee, and 20 market stalls overflowing with beautiful wares including exquisitely crafted jewellery, designer handbags, clothing and accessories for babies through to adults, gift wrap and stationery, books, gourmet produce and stunning treasures for the home.

To ensure uninterrupted browsing, there will be a great range of activities and treats to keep kids of all ages occupied – laser, skirmish, jumping castle, sports activities, show bags, kids craft, a chocolate wheel, fairy floss, lolly bags, snow cones and an old fashioned water dunking tank.

Parking is available in the Coles Supermarket car park behind the school and in surrounding streets. All welcome.
