Discover a world of Australian art at the 59th Hunter’s Hill Art Exhibition with the MSCW String Assemble on opening night.

This May why not call some friends to plan a local art adventure through Hunters Hill during this year's Art Exhibition. With three venues for art, it is a moveable feast for the eyes! Start at the Hunters Hill Town Hall where the majority of works will be displayed, then cross the road to the beautiful little Congregational Church and finally walk around the corner to the Hunters Hill Club for lunch or coffee and cake. In all three locations you will find a stunning variety of artwork, all displayed with style and care.

Over recent years the number of artists entering the exhibition have grown, hence the addition of the two newer venues. Artists have been pleased that their work has more chance of being displayed and the idea of an 'Art Walk' has been well received by visitors.

Make sure you visit the website above where you will find an online gallery with literally thousands of original Australian Art works to discover, news on other exhibitions and arts related stories, as well as presale tickets and much more. While you are there sign up to receive all the Hunters Hill arts and culture in our monthly events e-newsletter.

This year it was exciting to learn that Turkish born artist Mertim Gokalp's painting titled 'Derwish; a portrait of Billie Brown' has been selected to hang in this year's Archibald Prize Exhibition. Last year the painting was selected for the Hunters Hill Art Exhibition and was the source of much admiration, taking out the People’s Choice Award.

Three other portraits by the Balmain based artist were also on displayed at last year’s Exhibition, one of which 'Fish doesn't think...Fish knows everything' won the Regional Prize.

At the time Gokalp said; 'I have worked hard all my life to win this award and my advice to a new artist is simply to follow your dream and be prepared to work hard to achieve it'. 'As an artist trained in a Fine Arts Academy, I always appreciate and try to live up to the standards of great academic masters. The inspiration is to incorporate my observations into my unique style.'

It is not the first time that artists who have been selected at Hunters Hill have gone on to further success, and of course being hung in the Archibald will certainly help bring the talented and committed Mertim Gokalp's work to the wider public's attention.

Therefore we congratulate the artist and hopefully we will see his work again at the Hunters Hill Art Exhibition. It proves one thing, don't miss this year's Exhibition in May .... You never know just who you will discover!
