Sponsored by Google

The Deaf Community in Sydney will celebrate its diversity and achievements at an outdoor festival on 19 October 2013. Throughout the 1990’s, an annual Deaf festival was held at Tumbalong Park, Darling Harbour, before moving to Burwood and then Parramatta. This year, to celebrate the Deaf Society of NSW's 100th birthday the Deaf festival is coming back to the city of Sydney.
This festival will immediately follow the World Federation of the Deaf Conference and is expected to attract a large number of visitors from the international Deaf Community, as well as to be of interest to the many passers-by.
The program includes:
* International signing tent with free sign language classes in Auslan and sign languages from other countries around the world
* Sofya Gollan (from PlaySchool) will be a special guest and will be hosting free drama classes for children.
* Thomas Pattison School (deaf school) signing choir will be performing for the crowd
* A Deaf Minute to Win It competition will be held on the main stage and hosted by Deaf Sports Australia
* Hannah Darling (from the Voice) will be singing with Auslan and International Sign interpreters
Performance from Robert Townson High School
* A competition on the fastest fingerspeller of the Auslan alphabet (keep an eye out for more information on this soon)
* Stalls (diff organisations) and an Arts stall selling wares from deaf artists
The venue is Palm Grove, Darling Harbour, Sydney. Palm Grove is next to the IMAX theatre in Darling Harbour and between Cockle Bay Wharf and Harbourside.
